John Legend played three songs as a surprise performer at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards — but he also sang another tune about his kids’ poop.
Gayle King presented Legend with an award at the gala at MoMA, where honorees also included Jonah Hill and Ralph Lauren. While a piano was surreptitiously set up for Legend’s performance, King cajoled him to sing a song he composed about his kids’ diapers.
The a cappella ditty about his daughter, Luna, included the lyrics, “Somebody’s got a stinky booty…her name is Luna and she made a poopy.”
(Earlier this year, Legend unveiled the private potty tune as part of a Pampers campaign.)
At the awards, he then brought the house down with some more sophisticated songs, including a cover of the classic, “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”
During Legend’s acceptance speech, he revealed that he and King share a birthday, Dec. 28. “It’s a lonely birthday to have, but every year we call or email each other,” he said of the holiday season date.
