Many people were horrified that someone could heartlessly steal the only possession of a homeless man.
Others shared images of themselves with Lucy who posed with many passersby.
‘I was genuinely distressed to pass by today and see Chris without Lucy and for him to tell me that some heartless person had whisked her away.
‘Taking a homeless person’s loved pet – seriously, what a really low act. I hope that the power of social media may find someone who knows where Lucy is. I promised Chris I’d try this.’
The post received over six thousand comments with people saying they’d seen the pair in the past and would try to help reunite them.
The sad story has also been circulated around Australian news and Chris said he was humbled by all the attention he was receiving for losing Lucy.
Alyson updated her Facebook page and said: ‘I saw Chris today and he is staggered by your kindness and messages. Sadly there is no news of Lucy’s whereabouts yet but I have passed on the sightings shared via this post to the police who are helping bring Lucy home. We haven’t given up hope.’
She also set up a GoFundMe page to help Chris and other homeless people in the city.
