A new documentary celebrating Prince Charles’ 70th birthday reportedly conveys how a special moment between the royal and his new daughter-in-law, Duchess Meghan, went down.
Charles, who enters a new decade on Nov. 14, is the subject of the documentary “Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,” airing Thursday on BBC One.
One of the moments highlighted in the feature is when Prince Harry asked his father to walk Meghan down the aisle, report E! News and People magazine.
The day before the couple’s May 19 wedding, Kensington Palace announced that Charles would do the honors, filling in for Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle. The bride had already revealed her dad would not be attending and expressed hope he’d “be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”
In the week leading up to the wedding, TMZ had reported that Markle would undergo heart surgery in his adopted country of Mexico and wouldn’t be able to fly.
As a result, she walked the chapel’s checkered floor alone, smiling at her love from underneath a 16½-foot-long silk tulle veil, until she reached the quire, where the royal family was seated. At that point, Charles took her arm and led her the rest of the way.
