The flight has landed back at Heathrow airport on the captain’s orders after a minor technical difficulty.
No emergency was called but it was decided it was easier to take the aircraft back to London instead of continuing onto Milan.
Passengers on the plane were to be transferred onto a different aircraft and should arrive in Milan tonight, a BA spokesman said.
The delay to the take-off of the plane had nothing to do with the plane returning to London.
A British Airways spokesman said: ‘The aircraft returned to Heathrow as a precaution after a minor technical issue.
‘We apologise to our customers for the delay in their travels plans.’
