Blundering worker signs sympathy card with ‘Happy Birthday’ message

Always check the front of the card before signing! Blundering worker wishes grieving colleague ‘Happy Birthday’ in note passed round when her mother died

  • Colleagues of Shelley Clarkson signed a card after the death of mother Dianne
  • Among the messages was one from ‘Zoe’ wishing Shelley a happy birthday
  • Callum Howden revealed the blunder on Twitter, saying ‘you had one job Zoe ffs’

A grieving daughter whose mother had recently died was handed a sympathy card signed by a workmate wishing her a happy birthday.

Colleagues of Shelley Clarkson decided to write her a card – which bore the words ‘with heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your loved one’ on the front – after the death of her mother Dianne.

Personalised messages consoling Shelley were written inside, but among the condolences was one note which read: ‘To Shelley, hope you have a good birthday my love, from Zoe x’.

Callum Howden posted the image with the caption: ‘My nan recently passed away and my mum received a sorry for your loss card from her work, and look at this, you had one job Zoe ffs’

Callum Howden, 22, revealed the blunder on Twitter, posting a snapshot of the sympathy card with the out of place message circled in red.

Mr Howden, from Staffordshire, uploaded the image with the caption: ‘My nan recently passed away and my mum received a sorry for your loss card from her work, and look at this, you had one job Zoe ffs.’

The post has been retweeted more than 2,000 times and liked nearly 20,000 times.

Twitter users were quick to jump on the error, with one person saying: ‘ZOE!! She’s the one eating crisps in an otherwise quiet office and doing her nails while on the phone, right?’
