Loose Women: Andrea McLean returns as a guest on the show

Andrea McLean has revealed she wouldn’t turn down a chance to return to Loose Women if it came her way, but wouldn’t go back full-time. The former anchor worked for ITV for over 20 years before she stepped down to launch her own lifestyle website and app Girl Is On Fire back in 2020, named after her book.

The 54-year-old’s new venture got off to a successful start before she had to “close everything down” due to falling ill with covid. Speaking to Express.co.uk, the businesswoman shared: “The app ran for a couple of years I think, but in the end I had to close it because I ended up with long covid, so I was very poorly for about eight months and I couldn’t work.

“So, I had to close everything down and let my community know that it was all going. It was really tough, that happened earlier this year.” Not one to stay down for long however, Andrea “re-grouped” her thoughts and relaunched herself as a media trainer, offering tips to nervous CEOs, spokespersons and brand ambassadors wanting to get their message across clearly.

She said of her current role: “It’s not quite what I thought I’d be doing, but it feels like what I’m meant to be doing. I absolutely love it, I really enjoy it.” Despite having her busy schedule back on track and being a working mum, the broadcaster said she wouldn’t rule out returning to Loose Women but couldn’t commit to her regular slot like before.

“Absolutely [I’d go back], yeah why not, totally,” she said of a return. “I don’t think I’d do it like my job again, but totally I would, I left for the best of reasons.

“I think what we need to remember is, when I left it was the middle of a global pandemic. Nobody knew what was in store for the world, everyone was feeling like this is such a moment of change.

“For me I had been running This Girl Is On Fire and it showed me that you have only got one life and if you really want to try something you need to take a chance.” Looking back on her decision, Andrea said she has no regrets as she is now “freeer” and more “adventerous” than ever before.

“I’m so happy that I took the chance and I left,” she continued. “I think it’s really invigorating to try something else.”
