At this point, you’re probably desperate to get your feet in the sand and your chair set up in a prime location on the beach. We feel you. However, all too often we feel a deep pang of regret because we failed to put on (or reapply) our sunscreen and end up with a painful sunburn. Next thing you know, you’re not sure if that’s you in the mirror or a literal lobster, and even worse than the way it looks is the way it feels.
Of course, let this serve as a reminder to apply an adequate SPF when you have plans to be outside on a hot, sunny day. But, if for some reason you still get burned, there are some things you can do and some products you can use to help minimize the pain and heal that sunburn once and for all. Ready? Check ’em out:
After Sun Balm, $10
After spending a long time out in the sun, some sort of skin damage is sort of inevitable. Luckily, there are products like this one on the market that can help undo some of the damage you’ve done from a day out under those harmful rays.
All you have to do to make this after-sun balm work its magic is to apply it to the affected area. According to the product’s description, it works especially well after a bath or shower, and — SHOCKER — after sun exposure. Imagine that!
Osmia Lip Repair, $22
It’s not just the skin on your face and body that is affected by sunshine — it’s your lips, too! They’re are actually very sensitive, and when they get sunburned, it can be extremely painful, to say the least.
If this happens to you this summer, you don’t have to worry because this lip repair product by Osmia will help heal your mouth. The formula is made with manuka honey and myrrh extract, which both have amazing healing properties. If your lips get cracked or dry from sun exposure, this should definitely be your go-to product. Trust us.
Burt’s Bees After Sun Soother, $10
After several hours of sun exposure, it should be a priority to give your skin the attention it needs. Show your face and body some love with this Burt’s Bees After-Sun Soother, which is 99.6% natural. NGL, we’re obsessed.
The lotion is made mostly with natural aloe vera and linden extract, so basically, you’ll feel some major relief from that hot, itchy and painful sunburn. It’s also described as “intensely hydrating,” which is perfect for dry patches that are left behind.
Hampton Sun Hydrating Aloe, $28
Your whole life people have probably told you that there’s nothing better for a bad sunburn than some aloe vera, and you know what? They were right! That’s why this product by Hampton Sun is perfect to soothe your burn. Not to mention, once you use it, there’s no going back.
Like the Burt’s Bees lotion, this product has aloe in it, too. However, what sets this one apart is that it’s a continuous mist and also contains menthol for cooling. There’s nothing that feels better on a sunburn than, well, anything that’s ice cold. Don’t you agree?
Mario Badescu Aloe Lotion, $15
So, what’s the trick to soothing and healing that awful sunburn? Aloe, aloe and MORE ALOE! Luckily, Mario Badescu is one of our favorite beauty brands EVER, and it has an incredible lotion that’s infused with just that.

Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner, $8.83
The sun can really throw your skin off its game, which is why you’ll need an amazing toner to whip it back into shape. The good news is, Thayer’s has an alcohol-free rose petal witch hazel that we’re pretty much obsessed with.
Like many of the other products on this list, this one includes aloe vera, which means it’ll feel ah-mazing on that burn. Plus, it’ll help get your complexion back to normal, and let’s be honest… what more can you really ask for?
Sephora After-Sun Cooling Mask, $5
If you’re as obsessed with face masks as we are, and if you just so happen to be as red as a tomato, we highly suggest snagging this watermelon-scented mask from Sephora.
It will work to hydrate your skin and will also provide a ton of relief for itchy sunburn. That’s not all, though. The mask will also magically perfect your tan! How great is that?!
After-Sun Yoghurt Cooling Gel, $26
This may be slightly more expensive than your typical drugstore skincare product, but we have to say it’s 100% worth it. It is made with — you guessed it — Greek yogurt. And while that may sound gross, it actually is great for healing sunburns!
According to the product’s description, “This ultra-cooling cream gel provides long-lasting freshness and comfort to the face and body immediately upon application.” Need to feel better ASAP? This cooling gel will do the trick.
Cool Down Hydrating After-Sun Lotion, $11.99
One of the worst feelings in the world is when you get a terrible sunburn and your skin is hot to the touch. We know, ’cause we’ve been there! But the good news is, you no longer have to suffer through the pain.

ER+ Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion, $32
If you’re having a skin emergency due to a sunburn, you can’t go wrong with this ER+ Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion. Sure, it’s not the most affordable product on the market, but as the description states, it’ll “nourish, repair and keep your skin youthful and naturally glowing.” It’ll also provide “clinically proven relief from sunburn.” Sounds like a winner to us!
PHYTO PLAGE After Sun Sublime Hair & Body Oil, $40
When it comes to sun damage, it’s not just your skin you have to worry about, but your hair, too! After spending hours outside, your locks need to be nourished and, fortunately, we’ve got just the thing.
So, how exactly do you use this product? It’s a pre-shampoo treatment that should be left on for at least ten minutes for optimal results. The sun can really dry out your hair, so we think this oil is probably what you need to bring it back to life.
Oxygenetix Oxygenating Hydro-Matrix, $65
If you need instant relief for a sunburn and all other products have failed, we’ve found the one that will absolutely work wonders. This Hydro-Matrix serum will give you ample hydration and protection, and not to mention, a TON of relief.
