Aerosmith rocker Joe Perry collapsed backstage and was rushed to a hospital after a performance with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, according to reports.
The 68-year-old guitarist had just finished playing “Walk This Way” with Joel when he began gasping for air in his dressing room and was carted away on a stretcher, according to Deadline.com.
Paramedics shoved a tracheal tube down his throat to help him breathe and spent about 40 minutes treating him amid backstage panic, TMZ reported.
“Joe did not look good,” one witness told the celebrity news site.
Perry was in stable condition Sunday afternoon, a rep for the musician told Rolling Stone.
“This morning, Perry remains in the hospital, where he is alert and responsive,” the rep said. “Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.”
He had recently announced a solo tour. Aerosmith has a Las Vegas residency planned for next year.
