Standing at 6ft, Bear Grylls isn’t what you would call a short man.
However, when he teamed up with Chinese basketball star Yao Ming for his US show, he looked positively diminutive in comparison.
The adventurer, 44, invited retired NBA all-star Yao, 37, to join him in the wilderness for an episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls.
The former Houston Rockers and Shanghai Sharks player stands tall at 7ft 6in and weighs around 141kg.
Bear announced Yao as the next celebrity on his NBC show on his Instagram stories on Wednesday morning.
Sharing an image of the athlete towering over him, Bear wrote: ‘The legendary Yao."
In a cropped version of the same image on his regular Instagram, Bear wrote: "And another HUGE superstar! This one was fun… (double ropes!) see insta stories to reveal who it is @nbcrunningwild."
Yao originally appeared alongside Bear in the Chinese version of his show, Absolute Wild China, which was broadcast on the Discovery Channel in Asia last year.
The basketball star, who retired in 2011, is seen scaling down a cliff face and refusing to eat maggots in the wilderness with Bear.
Bear invited Yao to join him for an adventure after meeting in London to hear Prince William make a speech about the illegal wildlife trade.
