Brighton’s Leon Balogun has taken a swipe at Manchester United for helping him ease into life in the Premier League with their ‘slow’ play.
The Nigeria defender, signed on a free transfer this summer after leaving Mainz, came on for the injured Lewis Dunk in the Seagulls’ 3-2 victory over Jose Mourinho’s side.
And the 30-year-old insists United’s style made it easier for him – though a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool fills him with more fear.
“Some of the lads have just asked me that too and I said I had expected the Premier League to be quicker, but they told me this is always the kind of game you play against United,” Balogun said after the win.
“They like to slow it down a little bit sometimes. Liverpool is going to be completely different. I know how [Jürgen] Klopp likes to play. It’s going to be a lot quicker and a lot more intense.”
Chris Hughton will now have to assess Dunk following his injury and whether to retain him in the starting line-up or hand Balogun a full debut at Anfield.
