Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly and Julie Hesmondhalgh reunite in sweet snap

Coronation Street fans have been treated to an extra special reunion as Weatherfield favourites Katherine Kelly and Julie Hesmondhalgh met up years after they starred in the soap together.

The actors, who played Becky McDonald and Hayley Cropper respectively, were all smiles as they hugged cheek to cheek for a sweet Instagram snap.

Katherine, 42, shared the image of them catching up in a restaurant as she called the star, whose character was on the ITV soap for 16 years, "my favourite".

The two women donned knitted jumpers and had similarly blonde locks – a far cry from 52 year old Julie's signature brunette bob on the cobbles.

Underneath the snap, Katherine tagged her old friend and added a big red heart emoji.

Tthe two soap stars acted together for six years, and the Becky star was a part of the Weatherfield action from 2006 to 2012.

Since leaving the show, Katherine has had huge roles in dramas such as Liar, Cheat, and Mr Selfridge.

Both actors also went on to star in BBC police hit Happy Valley.

Earlier this week, some current Corrie stars enjoyed a night out together for the Footloose musical press night in Manchester.

Real-life siblings Rebecca, 30, and Jack James Ryan, 25, posed for cameras on the red carpet, with Faye Windass star Ellie Leach, 20, also joining the duo outside of their work commitments.

The duo looked worlds away from their Weatherfield characters, beaming as they got ready to enjoy a night of singing and dancing at the Opera House Theatre.

Rebecca took on the role of Adam Barlow's ex-girlfriend Lydia Chambers late last year, but her troublemaking and villainous status has led to uncertainty and criticism from viewers.

During a Q&A on his stories, Jack shared his support for his elder sister, as he told a fan: “We're super close outside of work so it's just like getting to work with your best mate.

"I know first hand how hard it is for the fans to get behind villains but she deserves all the love!! If you hate Lydia then you know Rebecca is doing an incredible job.

"She couldn't be any less like her character in real life, she is a literal angel," the actor added.
