Dame Vera Lynn has passed away at the age of 103, her family has announced.
The singer — dubbed The Forces' Sweetheart after she raised morale in World War II — died in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A statement released by her family says: "The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers at the age of 103."
They added that information on a memorial will be announced at a later date.
The Queen referenced Vera's best known song, We'll Meet Again, during her address to the nation about the coronavirus crisis in April.
Her career was celebrated once again last month as We'll Meet Again became the unofficial soundtrack to VE Day celebrations as people took to the streets to mark the 75th anniversary.
