Love Island host Caroline Flack took her own while she was facing trial accused of assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton. Tonight, her family and friends spoke out about her life on and off camera and how social media trolls and particular headlines affected her.

Taking to Twitter tonight, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 43, shared his thoughts about the documentary.

He wrote: “The #CarolineFlack documentary is just so incredibly sad.

“I know it’s easy to say this but it should be a reminder to us all to judge our words carefully.

“None of us truly know what others are going through.”

In the documentary, Caroline’s friend Olly Murs was left in tears as he reflected on his time with her.

The pair presented The Xtra Factor together before being promoted to the main show.

Olly said the pair received negative comments about their stint on the show, with the majority aimed at Caroline.

“Them comments did affect her every day – the comments did hurt,” he added.

Discussing her suicide, he said: “I just wish I could have told her not to do it. I never got the opportunity to do that.”

Also in the film, Caroline’s twin sister Jody went on to open up about the late Love Island presenter’s history with mental health.

She revealed that Caroline “found heartbreak impossible” and struggled to cope with negative comments about her.

The presenter’s mum Christine also said she urged her daughter to “get rid” of her phone as she couldn’t stop looking at the things people said about her on social media.

Jody went on to share memories about her sister from their younger years.

She continued: “Being twins is just a link and a bond which is quite rare, all the way along everything was the same. We played together all the time.

“When we were very young we used to sing at home and stuff and I went along with it a bit, that was just the pecking order. She was a bit bossy.

“She was Kylie out of Kylie and Jason. Yeah, I was always the boy,” she added.
