Trump’s Twitter account was banned in the wake of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and since then he has been using his alternative social media platform called Truth Social.
AceShowbiz –Elon Musk proved he’s a man of his word. The SpaceX founder, who previously declared that he would “reverse” the Twitter ban on Donald Trump, finally restored the account of the former president.
On Friday night, November 18, the business magnate posted a poll on the blue bird app, asking its users if Trump should be reinstated. The results, which were derived from 15 million votes, showed 51.8% in favor and 48.2% opposed.
Later that night, Musk tweeted, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.” The Tesla CEO, who finally bought the microblogging app for $44 billion, added, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei.” It means “the voice of the people is the voice of God” translated from Latin.
Trump’s account was banned in the wake of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. Since the Republican has been using his alternative social media platform, Truth Social.
Back in May, the former boyfriend of singer Grimes announced in a video conference, “I would reverse the permanent ban.” He continued, “I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake. It alienated the country and did not result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”
Trump, who announced he’s running for president in 2024 a few days prior, initially vowed that he would not return to Twitter even if he was permitted, and instead prefers to post to the Truth Social. The twice impeached former commander-in-chief told Fox News, “I am going to be staying on Truth.”
However, Trump praised Musk for his decision to purchase Twitter. “[I] liked that he bought [Twitter],” he said in Las Vegas at the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting. “He’s a character and I tend to like characters… But he’s smart.”
