Manchester United will announce the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk this week, according to Sky Sports .
The midfielder – who is in the Brazil squad at the World Cup – has been waiting on a work permit to seal his deal after agreeing a switch in principle earlier this month.
But that permit has now been secured, and the club could confirm that a deal worth more than £52m has been agreed as early as Thursday.
The 25-year-old has been at Shakhtar for five seasons, and has eight caps for his country.
He was an unused substitute in Brazil’s first match of the World Cup – a 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Sunday – after picking up an injury in a pre-tournament training camp.
But he is expected to be fit for Friday’s clash with Costa Rica.
Fred will become United’s second signing of the summer after the Porto youngster Diogo Dalot, who joined for £19m.
