Gareth Southgate axes long-time England star from World Cup squad

Joe Hart has been axed from England’s World Cup squad.

It will spell the end of Hart’s England career and comes as a crushing blow for the 31-year-old.

England boss Gareth Southgate told Hart on Monday that he will not be included in the 23 man squad for Russia.

Hart had pinned his hopes on going as third choice behind Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland.

But Burnley’s Nick Pope is now expected to go ahead of Hart who has played 75 times for England.

Hart losing his place at West Ham at the end of the season is the reason why Southgate decided against him, having previously said he would go.

Pickford and Butland are currently vying for the No.1 spot, the Everton keeper having played against Holland and the Stoke stopper against Italy during the March internationals.

What should Joe Hart be at World Cup 2018?
