Iggy Azalea knew Demi Lovato relapsed

Iggy Azalea knew Demi Lovato relapsed before the singer announced it to the world with her ballad “Sober.”

“I had known about it, as a close friend, so I had really wanted for her to be the one to tell people that. And I worried a lot, as her friend, that something was going to leak or somebody would somehow take that and use it negatively against her, or to make her seem like she’s got a secret,” Azalea, 28, told “Entertainment Tonight” in an interview released Tuesday.

“It’s not my business to say to my friend, ‘You need to fess up,’ but as a friend, you worry and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God, my friend, she has this thing that people can use against her and I really want her to own it.’ And she did,” she added.

The Australian rapper, who’s slated to open for Lovato, 25, on tour, admitted that she didn’t know the former Disney star was going to put out “Sober” and heard it for the first time along with the rest of the world.

“I didn’t know that she was recording that song, she didn’t tell me that. I was just really proud of her that she was honest, because it’s really hard to be honest with yourself. So, to be honest with the whole world, [to share] something that you struggled with very publicly, it’s something that is very admirable. I was very proud of her to see her write that song and put it out.”

When “Sober” was released in June, Lovato revealed she’d relapsed after six years of sobriety. While she did not go into detail, she has previously struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse and had gone to rehab several times before getting clean in 2012. Lovato even admitted that she abused the substances while promoting a sober lifestyle.

She also confessed that she was tempted to drink after the 2016 Met Gala.

When the song was released, Azalea expressed her support on social media.

“Waking up listening to @ddlovato ‘Sober.’ I’m proud of you for having the guts to reveal your truth to the world again. NOT. EASY,” she tweeted. “I’m here for you friend! (You know this.) I pray you’ll choose recovery again. All of us who love you only want to see you happy and [healthy].”

Azalea added in a separate tweet, “I was there the day we sung you happy birthday for 6 years sober. I jumped a random person’s fence in my PJs to come get you, even when you had no clue I was gonna pop up on your ass … Deal with it ’cause I love you.”
