Inside Brad and Ange’s ‘grotto’ where love bloomed while he was still with Jen

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have both admitted they fell in love on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston.

Talking to Rolling Stone magazine, Brad declared the sexy action movie ended up being his favourite film ever, "Because you know… six kids. Because I fell in love."

"Not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love," Angelina also gushed, having being branded "uncool" by Jennifer for admitting she couldn't wait to get to work to see Brad.

Actor Efren Ramirez claimed his co-stars had a "platonic relationship going on,” while a crew member revealed Brad and Angelina had their own "grotto" where they spent hours getting to know each other.

"We called it Brad’s grotto,” the crew member told People magazine of the patio area Brad created near his trailer.

“Quite often Brad and Angelina were out there talking while her little boy [son Maddox] was playing next to the grotto.”

In 2016, Angelina's former bodyguard Mark Behar claimed things had been much less PG between the pair.

According to Behar, he helped Brad and Ange exchange secret explicit love notes that "were sexual in content" and busted them getting hot and heavy in their trailers.

"[Angelina] and Brad were constantly laughing and flirting with each other and acting like two school kids who had the hots for each other, and it was so cute," he told Us Weekly.

"I caught them several times in each other’s trailers making out. I wasn't shocked at all when they got married years later."

Both Brad and Angelina have denied anything physical happened while he was still married to Jen, and during filming sources said the Friends star would “send over little food things that she made for Brad’s dinner."

At that time, Brad was equally thoughtful with a source telling People magazine he, "would occasionally request that his wife run an errand and then surprise her by arranging to have an old friend meet her there."

In a cruel twist of fate, Brad wasn't even supposed to star in the film.

He dropped out when Nicole Kidman bailed due to schedule conflicts with The Stepford Wives, but agreed to come back at the last minute when Angelina signed on as Jane Smith.

Jen was naturally thrilled for her husband and stopped to talk to Angelina when she bumped into her in the car park of the Friends set.

"I pulled over and introduced myself," Jennifer told Vanity Fair. "I said, 'Brad is so excited about working with you. I hope you guys have a really good time.'"

But just months into filming their relationship became strained, with Brad skipping filming of the final episode of Friends.

They announced their separation in January 2005 after a make-or-break holiday to Mexico, and Jen said she "chose" to believe her husband when he said nothing had happened with Angelina.

Three months later he was photographed on holiday with Angelina and Maddox and they announced their first pregnancy in January 2006.
