John Legend and Diane Warren each have two songs on the Oscars’ Best Original Song shortlist.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released its shortlists in nine categories, including best original song, on Tuesday, February 9.
Warren’s “Io sì (Seen)” from The Life Ahead and “Free” from The One and Only Ivan have been shortlisted. Legend, who has previously won an Oscar, saw his “Never Break” from Giving Voice and “Make It Work” from Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey being shortlisted.
Legend has previously won an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Glory” from Selma, while Warren, who has earned 11 nominations, has yet to win.
Meanwhile, Leslie Odom, Jr.‘s “Speak Now” from One Night in Miami, Mary J. Blige‘s “See What You’ve Done” from Belly of the Beast, and Judas and the Black Messiah song “Fight For You” by H.E.R., Dernst Emile II, and Tiara Thomas are also in contention.
Janelle Monáe‘s “Turntables” from All In: The Fight for Democracy, “Wuhan Flu” from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, “Husavik” from Eurovision Song Contest, “Rain Song” from Minari, “Show Me Your Soul” from Mr. Soul!, “Loyal Brave True” from Mulan, “Green” from Sound of Metal and “Hear My Voice” from The Trial of the Chicago 7 complete the list.
