Why Juventus and Napoli players have red stripes on their faces

Juventus and Napoli meet tonight in a game that will go a long way to deciding the Serie A title – but one peculiar sight was that some players had red stripes on their faces.

Marek Hamsik was one of the players this weekend to display the iconic mark from red lipstick in support for the campaign to raise awareness of violence against women in Italy.

The campaign in the country has come with the hashtag, #unrossoallaviolenza (a red card to violence).

Moreover, players have posted pictures this week alongside their wives and girlfriends with the lipstick drawn on their cheeks and the wives and girlfriends wearing it on their lips.

Lazio star Ciro Immobile could be seen alongside partner Jessica Melena.

The campaign was set up by the Italian humanitarian organisation WeWorld Onlus, the players’ association and the Lega Serie A.

The Old Lady are defending a four-point lead at the top of the table in tonight’s game at the Allianz Stadium vs Napoli.

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri and Napoli’s Maurizio Sarri have both been linked with moves to Premier League clubs this summer.
