Kimberley Walsh lands ‘home-wrecking’ role in school drama Ackley Bridge

Kimberley Walsh is swapping the stage for the school yard after landing a new TV role.

The Girls Aloud star has been cast as a "home-wrecking" netball coach in Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge.

Her character, Claire, will join the school when the series returns next month.

Kimberley has dabbled in acting, including stage roles in the likes of Elf The Musical, and her sister, Amy, plays Tracy Metcalfe in ITV soap Emmerdale.

The singer’s role will stir things up in the school.

She’s the ex-wife of PE teacher Steve, played by Paul Nicholls, who is now married to headteacher Mandy, portrayed by Jo Joyner.

A Channel 4 source told The Sun : "It’s a great signing for Channel 4, and Kimberley jumped at the chance. She loves acting and she’s trying to do more of it.

"She had small roles in Disney series The Lodge and Horrid Henry: The Movie. Her new part is definitely something to get her teeth into and Claire will ruffle some feathers. Her clashes with Mandy will be good fun for viewers."

Kimberley added to the newspaper that she’d had fun filming her scenes.

She said: "Claire is sassy and strong and comes to blows a few times with Mandy, which was really fun to play. It was great fun working with Jo Joyner and Paul Nicholls on this storyline."

It comes amid reports that Girls Aloud are set for a shock reunion.

According to The Sun , Cheryl, who shares baby Bear with boyfriend Liam Payne, came up with the idea alongside pals Kimberley and Nicola Roberts.

And once they said they’d be up for it, she reached out to Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle, with them now back in regular contact for the first time in years.

Mirror Online has contacted Kimberley’s representatives and Channel 4 for comment.
