The stars of Love Island have been informed of Sophie Gradon’s passing. 

The former contestant was found dead at her parents’ home on Wednesday evening before news arose the next day, leading to questions about the Islanders being informed of the 32-year-old’s death – particularly her friend Ellie Brown. 

An insider revealed to MailOnline that the residents of the villa were told the tragic news off-camera, as fans and friends on the outside continue to mourn the death of the Newcastle-born star, who appeared in the 2016 series of the show.

Social media erupted on Tuesday when it was revealed that former Miss GB had passed away as a host of her co-stars from the second season of the show shared gushing tributes to ‘the most beautiful soul’. 

Just days before, Sophie had announced Ellie’s arrival in the villa with a message shared on Twitter alongside a promotional image of the newbie, along with a caption reading: ‘… my mate Elle is landing in #loveisland no biggie’.

Thus far this series, Niall Aslam has been forced to depart the show for personal reasons, with all scenes of his departure taking place off-screen. During Sophie’s season, Zara Holland was told her mum was unwell by producers off-camera.  

On Thursday’s episode of the show, a dedication to Sophie was presented at the start with an image of the star and the words: ‘In loving memory of Sophie Gradon’.

Sophie, who starred on the 2016 series of Love Island, star was found dead at her parents house in Medburn, Ponteland on Wednesday evening.

A spokesperson from Northumbria Police told MailOnline: ‘At about 8.27pm yesterday police attended a property in Medburn, Ponteland, where sadly a 32-year-old woman was found deceased.

‘There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A report will now be prepared for the coroner.’

Friends told The Sun: ‘She had suffered from depression and anxiety and there was talk of financial issues which obviously adds to the worry she was enduring.

‘Her friends thought she was in a great place as she was madly in love with her boyfriend and life was good. However a good friend died and it affected her very badly.’

Sophie’s former Love Island boyfriend Thomas Powell, 26, broke his silence in the wake of the devastating news, taking toTwitter on Thursday evening to pen a heartbreaking tweet, as well as giving an interview saying he is in ‘total shock’.

The Welsh fitness model shared one of Sophie’s old posts, which read: ‘I genuinely feel that when true & honest human souls get taken away from us, they are the ones who have found the meaning of life.’
