Earlier this week, Indiana based photographer, Larry Philpot filed a lawsuit against Lynyrd Skynyrd for using a photograph of Jerry Lee Lewis taken by him in their farewell tour performance.
The photo was taken at a 2011 performance in Memphis and was originally uploaded to Wikimedia. The band have allegedly committed intellectual property theft by failing to properly attribute it to him, due to which he filed an official complaint at the California federal court for copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
“…the photograph must be attributed to Mr. Philpot, and that the photograph is copyrighted by Mr. Philpot,” reads the complaint.
Dubbed The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell tour, the tour kicked off on May 4 2018, at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach and is scheduled to conclude on January 8 2019, at the Southern Rock Cruise 2019 in Cozumel, Mexico.
