Mike Bushell: ‘What has he done?’ Strictly 2019 star’s wife speaks out on awkward moment

Mike Bushell, 53, is currently enjoying his time on the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing 2019, away from his hosting duties on BBC Breakfast. The sport correspondent’s wife, Emily, 39, has now called out Mike for his “constant clumsiness” and admitted he is banned from doing DIY at their home. It comes after the BBC Breakfast star went viral after he slipped into a swimming pool live on the morning show in 2018. Speaking to OK! magazine about the incident, Emily said: “I was on a flight from Spain, and when I landed my phone was going wild. I was thinking, what has he done?

“This clumsiness is constant with Mike. I’ve had to ban him from DIY.”

Mike appeared to dismiss his wife’s concern, as he admitted his Strictly dance partner Katya Jones, 30, has embraced his clumsiness.

He told the publication: “Katya doesn’t treat me like I’m clumsy. There are three moments in our first dance where we could end up on the floor.

“She’s just suggested a joint cartwheel!”

The BBC Breakfast star admitted he was surprised the hilarious clip went viral and recalled a stranger telling him the clip was all over Twitter.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it! I was getting so many calls. It was surreal. I remember going to the beach, ten minutes afterwards, and a man said, ‘Oh my God, you’re the guy who fell in the pool.’

“I was like, ‘How do you know that?’ and he replied, ‘It’s all over Twitter, mate’.”

Mike split from his first wife Kim in 2009 after 12 years of marriage, long before his whirlwind romance with Emily.

He is dancing with newly-single Katya, who is estranged from her husband and co-star Neil Jones, ten months after she was pictured kissing her partner Seann Walsh last year.

“I’ve just got married, and I’m the oldest male contestant this year so we just laughed about it,” he confirmed.

“When I was partnered with with Katya there were a few memes suggesting Emily would be gutted, but it’s not an issue.”

Emily added: “I was just find them funny! It doesn’t even cross my mind because we’re happy. I met Katya and she’s totally professional. Plus, she lives locally so that means I’m going to see them both lots.”

Meanwhile, Mike and professional dancer Katya Jones were in the dance-off alongside former goalkeeper David James and dance partner Nadia Bychkova last weekend.

The pair scored 21 points out of 40 points for their Samba to Jump On It by The Sugarhill Gang.

Fortunately for the BBC Breakfast star, he was unanimously saved by the judging panel.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight on BBC One at 6.35pm.
