Myles Stephenson has opened up on how he is supporting his close pal Kate Garraway through her family's ordeal as her husband Derek Draper remains in intensive care while recovering from his coronavirus battle.

Myles, 28, and Kate, 53, became close after appearing on I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! last year and he is due to appear on Kate’s new morning breakfast show, Breakfast at Garraway's.

Rak-Su singer Myles told The Sun that he is trying to support Kate and her children, 14-year-old Darcey and Billy, ten, in any way he can and is acting as a big brother figure to the children.

He told the publication: "It breaks my heart.”

"I have such a close relationship with them all – including Derek.

"Kate knows I am there for her at the drop of a dime – for her and the kids – anything she needs.

"She has taken me up on the offer a few times, but I don't really want to say what she's asked of. It's just about looking out for the kids and being a big brother to them.

"It's been very hard. All we can do is pray for Derek and pray for Kate and the kids as well."

Kate’s husband, former political adviser Derek, 52, remains in a coma after three months in intensive care following his battle with coronavirus.

Despite now being free of Covid-19, Kate revealed the deadly virus has "wreaked extraordinary damage on his body".

Myles praised TV presenter Kate for how incredibly strong and brave she has been throughout the horrific ordeal for her family, saying: "She's very independent and strong-minded.

"She has a lot of willpower. She is a fighter, like Derek. It relays onto the kids as well. I can't imagine what they are going through."

Kate’s Good Morning Britain co-star Piers Morgan recently revealed that Kate is “living in hope” that her husband will make a recovery and be able to return home to her and their children.

While speaking to a nurse who managed to beat the coronavirus after being in intensive care for 93 days, Piers said: "We have obviously one of our own, Kate Garraway, whose husband is in a terrible position."

"We wish them, as always, all the very best. But they're living in hope," he continued, before addressing the nurse once more by adding: "And you're giving them hope because you've been through it."
