Naga Munchetty: BBC host ‘put in her place’ by co-star after she brands him ‘so fussy’

BBC Breakfast: Naga mocks Charlie’s comment on snow woman

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty, 45, and her BBC Radio 5 Live co-star Nick Hatfield got into a funny on-air exchange after he objected to her mackerel pâté. The newsreader and the presenter got into the light-hearted debate when Naga told him to be “more organised” and eat a proper breakfast before work.

It came after Nick mentioned on yesterday’s broadcast: “I haven’t even had my breakfast yet, I’ve been so busy today.”

Naga then advised: “Do you know what you need to do? You need to be organised because you know I do munch my way through the whole programme.

“Homemade mackerel pate I brought in today with rice cakes, I’ve been munching through those. In fact, I’m going to have one while you’re reading the news.”

However, Nick was quick to query Naga’s choice of breakfast food, exclaiming: “For breakfast? Are you in the studio on your own?”

“Yes, and there are no rules about when you can eat and what you can eat,” Naga responded.

Explaining his issue with the snack, Nick added: “Except your studio will be a bit stinky.”

“It might be a nice smell,” the host suggested.

After Nick gave Naga’s listeners an insight into yesterday’s top news stories, they began bickering again.

Naga told him: “Nick, thanks very much. We’ll speak tomorrow no doubt?”

“Maybe… Maybe just clean up that mackerel before you come in,” he mischievously quipped.

Naga then hit back before speaking to sports reporter Delyth Lloyd: “So fussy!

“Delyth Lloyd is looking at the sport. Delyth, good afternoon, you’ve had lots of news around this afternoon.”

Before Delyth began her report, she praised Nick for putting Naga “in her place” over the pâté controversy.

“I did quite like the way Nick was putting you in your place there Naga,” she admitted.

“What with my mackerel pâté?” Naga questioned.

“Yeah and just sort of teasing whether he’s going to be in tomorrow,” Delyth replied.

Refusing to back down, Naga said: “Do you know what? If he doesn’t like it, I’ll tell you what I’m bringing in tomorrow, mackerel pâté.”

After listening in to Naga and Delyth’s chat, Nick chimed: “Sorry Naga, I’m still here. Is it homemade?”

Naga then got the last laugh, as she replied: “Yes homemade, and can I just say? It trumps your presence in the studio.

“So if it’s a choice between you nick and the mackerel pâté, the mackerel pâté wins.”

“Well I’ve definitely been put in my place now, haven’t I?” Nick admitted.

“There you go Delyth, never fear, it will always come back,” Naga joked.

The sports reported chuckled: “Never fear, thanks Naga!”
