Sokratis Papastathopoulos has opened up on his relationship with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and has revealed the part he played in his £16million move to Arsenal.
The Greek defender became good friends with Aubameyang when they both signed for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund around the same time in 2013.
The two men speak Italian, so were able to communicate from day one, and Papastathopoulos has explained how they have also previously bonded over cars.
The 30-year-old, who is the Gunners’ third summer signing, went on to admit that his Arsenal team-mate is a little bit more flash than him in this particular department.
"We became friends very fast because we came to the club together and of course he also spoke Italian, which I speak very well," Papastathopoulos told Arsenal Player.
"The first year, because neither of us spoke German, it was easier for me and him to speak in Italian.
"When I came in a Fiat 500 [to Dortmund’s training ground], I saw Auba with a Ferrari or a Porsche! It’s normal for a player who likes special cars, like Auba. It’s special that he has these cars.
"I took a Fiat 500 [to Germany] because it was the first car that I’d paid for with my own money. I will bring it here with me to England too.
"[I bought it] in the first year when I got out of Greece. I was 18 or 19. It’s the only car that I will keep until the end."
