Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse took to Twitter today while watching the Christmas special of the ballroom dancing programme. The professional dancer told fans the dances on the top 25 list were “awesome,” however, some viewers were frustrated by the show’s format.
“This list is just so awesome!!!! All of it,” Oti announced to her 156,000 followers.
“Where are you? Oti top three?” one follower asked.
“There’s been some Brilliant Jives – so far,” a second person added.
“But to see Caroline Flack is so special but heartbreaking,” a third remarked.
When the show began, some viewers of the Christmas special were divided over the new format of the show.
In previous years, a new set of celebrities have performed a special festive dance routine with their professional partners in a one-off show.
However this year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the episode features a look back at 25 of the best dances in the show’s history.
Some viewers were a little frustrated they couldn’t watch the whole dance and many of the routines had commentary over them.
“It’s about dancing Dahhhhling, So WHY all the talking #strictly,” one viewer wrote on Twitter.
“Wish #Strictly would just let us watch the dances, without all the VTs and additional comments,” another added.
Disagreeing completely, another social media user said they preferred the change of format.
“I’ve got to be honest I much prefer this version of Christmas strictly than the cheesy Christmas special with celebs we’re not really invested in that we normally get #Strictly,” the tweet.

“This is great. I’m loving seeing some of the best dances ever. So much better than the usual Christmas #Strictly. #scd,” another person agreed.
Strictly pro Oti Mabuse, who won the 2019 and 2020 series of the show, also took to Twitter to share her thoughts on her favourite dances.
“Hope you’re all tucked in watching @bbcstrictly Christmas countdown,” she said.
The 30-year-old dancer recalled watching some of the routines while staring in the German version of the show.
“@JManrara and @mrjakedwood and that salsa! I remember watching it while I was still on Let’s Dance,” she said following Janette Manrana and EastEnders star Jake Wood’s performance.
“Beautiful American smooth, just brilliant love @OreOduba @joanneclifton,” Oti added after former champions Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton’s number.
Oti, who won the contest last year with Kelvin Fletcher, made it into the top three of the list – twice.
The couple’s very first dance, a Samba, was an unexpected highlight of the series and got a standing ovation in the opening show.
She also scored second place with another Samba routine.
Her performance with Danny Mac in the 2016 series earned 40 points on the night and also second place on the list as well.
The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness and Aliona Vilani came first with their popular Movie Week jive routine.
