Why R.L. Stine Sent That Viral Shakira Tweet Into The World This Weekend

Over the weekend, R.L. Stine, the author responsible for some of the most terrifying books from your childhood, took to Twitter to drop this small (and random) gem into your Twitter timeline:

The tweet has since gone viral (it has about 37,000 likes and over 14,000 retweets) and serves as a gentle reminder that the Goosebumps creator is still out there doing his damn thing. In response to his tweet — which references Wyclef Jean’s line in the 2006 song “Hips Don’t Lie” by my girl Shakira — the “Stephen King of children’s literature” was asked to clarify a few things for the good folks over at New York Magazine. When asked what compelled him to remind us of the end all be all of gyrating hip songs, he responded:

“I honestly don’t know. I did it a year ago and it was the biggest tweet I’d ever had from all my tweets. Somehow I remembered it, the song popped into my head… so I did it again.”

Tweet in reference:

According to the interview, Stine is also a huge Shakira fan and has watched the video “many times.” Sadly, all of Stine’s Shakira tweeting has yet to gain the approval from Shakira herself.

Shakira, holler at ya boy.
