Gemma Collins’ Dancing On Ice partner Matt Evers has broken his silence on why the pair appeared to go missing on last night’s live show minutes after their disastrous performance.
Appearing today on Heart Breakfast, American skater Matt admitted he and Gemma did indeed go off after that explosive showdown between The GC and judge Jason Gardiner, which saw the two hurl verbal abuse at each other in front of the shocked studio audience.
And, with Holly Willoughby and all four of the judges sniping at Gemma for her meltdown, she and Matt were nowhere in sight when all of the couples returned to the ice following the last performance of the night.
Matt revealed the real reason wasn’t because Gemma needed time to calm down after her fight, but because they had to switch outfits quickly ahead of the skate-off.
"We were fine. What happens after we skated – and it happened with Melody Thornton,as well – we had a quick change," he told the radio show.
"We have to get set in to our second costume for the skate-off, so we were basically running around naked backstage.
"We got a lot of backlash again on social media, ‘how come they weren’t in that shot, how come they weren’t getting interviewed?’
"We had a quick change."
Matt admitted he was "shocked" that he and Gemma were saved from the skate-off, after receiving just 13 points out of 40 for their "under-rehearsed" performance – the lowest score of the series so far.
Instead, Saira Khan and Richard Blackwood went head-to-head, with Richard getting himself voted off.
Meanwhile, Gemma has resurfaced today and was spotted smiling as she left her Essex home to head to her first rehearsal of the week.
Matt had told Heart that Gemma missed a significant number of practice sessions last week, which she claimed was because she was so upset at press reports calling her a lazy diva.
But even mild-mannered DoI judge Ashley Banjo picked up on her lack of practice last night, sarcastically calling it "great" that she’d turned up for the live show despite having gone missing in action for much of the week.
