While Pointless presenter Richard Osman, 49, joined host Alex Jones, 43, and guest presenter Michael Ball, 58, on The One Show this week, he was branded as Buddy the Elf, who is played by actor Will Ferrell, due to the camera angles. It came after the BBC favourite read out a message from one viewer on the programme.

Alex read out loud: “Fiona in Perth says, ‘You’ve made poor Richard look like Will Ferrell’s Elf with your camera angles.

“‘Tiny Alex and Michael, The One Show elves’.”

After the trio were left in stitches, the camera turned to show Richard looking taller than his co-stars, as he joked: “I’m only 5ft 9.”

Michael added: “Yeah, I know.”

The character, Buddy the Elf, is a strangely tall man who is raised by elves and Santa in the North Pole.

The singer continued: “This is nice though, from Hazel, about Richard wanting to be cool.

“‘You are cool! And we think you’re a national treasure.'”

The TV star, who hosts the game show alongside Alexander Armstrong, replied: “Aw, Hazel.”

It comes after Richard briefly discussed his split from Jazz singer Sumudu Jayatilaka in a new interview.

The pair had reportedly been dating since 2018 after deciding to keep their romance out of the spotlight.

Richard, who has two children with his ex partner, said he would prefer to not speak too much about the situation as he didn’t want to “upset her”.

The host had previously revealed he had been keeping busy by working on his book titled Thursday Murder Club.

He said the performer was the first person to read it as they were together at the time.

After Richard was asked about whether the romance in the novel is autobiographical, he said: “I’d rather not go into all of that.

“Because we’re not together, so I’d rather not upset her at all.”

Richard and Sumudu were first spotted together last year in February when they walked home from a sports quiz together.

At the time, they had been reportedly dating for months before going public with their relationship.

Back in April, it was believed that the former couple had called time on things after being together for over a year.

While Richard is 6ft 7, the singer was 17 inches shorter than him.

“I just looked down and there she was,” he previously told the Daily Mail.

I’m always looking down because everybody is short to me.”

It came two years after Richard split from Absolute radio host Emily Dean.
