AUSTIN, TX — Hundreds of fans braved the Texas heat for the premiere of HBO’s newest psychological, female-driven thriller “Sharp Objects,” followed by a panel with Amy Adams, Marti Noxon, Gillian Flynn, Jean-Marc Vallée, and Jason Blum.
“I already had read the book before this was presented to me,” Adams, who stars in and executive produces the show, told reporters at ATX TV Festival on Thursday. “I am a big fan of Gillian and read all her novels. When they pitched it to me and we sat down and talked and they invited me on as an executive producer, it was really exciting.”
She added, “It was something I wanted to move towards anyways. Getting to bring Jean-Marc aboard and be apart of the casting process and apart of the tone on set, it made a huge difference for me in how powerful I felt in the world.”
“Sharp Objects” follows a reporter with a troubled past sent to cover two murders in her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri.
“It’s fun to go down to Georgia where we created Wind Gap and walk around the actual town,” Flynn, the author of the novel and executive producer told Page Six.
“It’s sort of mind-blowing to see it that way … the main street was Main Street to me. It was just like that. It was very eerie to be walking around, I got chills.”
“Sharp Objects” premieres on July 9 on HBO.
