Shirley Ballas gets ‘barrage of hatred’ over Ranvir’s Strictly exit ‘Hurt to the core’

Strictly: Ranvir and Giovanni get voted off

Shirley Ballas has informed fans that the abusive messages she received over the weekend had “hurt her to the core”. The Strictly Come Dancing judge took to Instagram to speak out today and to share just one of the hundreds of messages she has been sent.

Alongside the hurtful DM, she wrote: “This is just one of the hundreds of messages sent to me after last night’s incredibly tough decision.

“The barrage of hatred that I have received is truly devastating and has hurt me to the core.

“In life, we all disagree on something, which I think is quite healthy.

“But I would have hoped that after the year we have all faced, and those we have lost – not just to covid – we would have learned to be kind to others.

“Thank you to all those who have sent me messages of support, you have gone one way in restoring my faith in humanity.

“With love, Shirley,” she wrote in view of her 177,000 followers.

Last night viewers saw Jamie Laing and his professional partner Karen Hauer in the dreaded dance off with Ranvir and Giovanni Pernice.

While Motsi chose to save the Good Morning Britain host, both Shirley and Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Jamie.

Shirley said the Made In Chelsea star seemed to have a bit more “determination”.

She said: “This is very difficult because I’ve grown to love both couples. I’m getting quite emotional now.

“Musicality, determination, conviction from both teams, they just gave their all. But I just feel that one couple had a little more determination, a little bit more ‘I’m not leaving without that trophy’ and with that in mind I’m saving Jamie and Karen.”

Ranvir told Strictly host Tess Daly that she was sad to leave the competition at this point and not be in next week’s final.

She then apologised to her partner for falling at the last hurdle.

When asked about her time on the show, she said: “I’m just really sorry for him [Giovanni], he’s worked so hard and been in so many finals that I’m really sorry I couldn’t do it for you. Sorry.”

She went on to say: “There’s some really beautiful moments in there and so much more than I ever expected and I’m sad not to be in the Final.

“But at the same time, I am glad that we’ve moved people to tears and the argentine tango was an amazing moment.

“We’ve had some really fantastic memorable moments and I know I couldn’t have got this far without you.”

Taking to Instagram after the Results Show aired, Jamie seemed shocked to be in the final.

“I don’t really know what just happened but turns out we’re Strictly Come Dancing Finalists!!!

“Holy Smokes…. Thank you to everyone who has supported us – this was and still is a real journey for us,” he wrote in view of his 918,000 followers.

The remaining couples will take to the dancefloor for the final time this weekend in the ultimate ballroom showdown taking place on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One.
