Strictly's Katya Jones says Seann Walsh kiss was 'more talked about than Brexit'

Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones says she was more talked about than Brexit after kissing her dance partner Seann Walsh.

Back in October 2018, fans of the show were left stunned when video footage and pictures emerged of Katya and comedian Seann passionately kissing after leaving the pub.

While rumours of the romance on Strictly are nothing new, Seann had a girlfriend of five years, Rebecca Humphries, and Katya was married to fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones.

Speaking about the scandal, Katya said that she has no regrets, but she was shocked by the attention she got, saying it ‘made it hell’.

The 31-year-old told The Sun: ‘I think for two weeks Brexit was forgotten!

‘It was mental, and it took time to get over it but the way I came out of it, I am happy, and my ex-husband Neil and I have never been so close. Which I think says it all.’

While Katya and Neil initially stayed together after the kiss scandal, 10 months later, they confirmed that they had split after seven years of marriage.

The Russian dancer said: ‘I’m not saying that what happened was right but lessons were learned and now we are both so happy.

‘We just came to the conclusion that we were really good friends but that the romantic side had gone.’

Katya and Neil, 38, remain close friends, with Neil now dating dancer and model Luisa Eusse.

Meanwhile, Seann, 35, was famously dumped by Rebecca after the pictures emerged, with the actress ‘taking the cat’ and later accusing Seann of gaslighting her through their relationship.

Rebecca was recently seen on Netflix’s The Crown, playing Carol Thatcher.

The comedian later said he ‘didn’t deserve the backlash’ and said he was ‘demonised’ following the kiss.

Katya also praised the BBC for the handling of the situation and says she was offered therapy after the scandal, but says she already had her own ‘mental coach’.

This year, Katya made history when she was paired with Nicola Adams in the first same-sex Strictly couple, but they were forced to drop out of the competition after Katya tested positive for Covid-19.

However, they will be returning for next week’s grand final, and will get to perform their sexiest routine yet after being unable to perform a romantic routine during their time on the show.

Strictly Come Dancing’s semi-final is on tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
