Tamara Ecclestone slammed by PETA for visiting ‘hellish prisons’ containing caged Amur tigers as she’s pictured teasing endangered animal with a rod
- Tamara, 33, was pictured feeding Amur tigers and waving a rod at them at Chessington World Of Adventure’s new Land of the Tigers exhibit
- Animal rights charity PETA has claimed the tigers are living in ‘lousy prisons’
- Four endangered Amur tigers were shipped to the UK from Russia
- There are only 500 Amur tigers left in the world
Tamara Ecclestone has received a backlash from PETA after she was pictured feeding endangered Amur tigers at Chessington World Of Adventures Resort on Saturday.
The Formula One heiress, who brought her four-year-old daughter Sophia along, led a whole galaxy of reality stars at the opening of the multi-million pound enclosure.
However, animal rights charity PETA has urged animal lover Tamara, 33, not to promote such exhibitions, claiming the tigers are living ‘in hell’ by being confined to small cages.
Roar: Tamara Ecclestone fed the caged Amur tiger slabs of meat before she teased the endangered animal with a rod at new Chessington Resort attraction on Saturday
A PETA spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Captivity is hell for tigers, who pace back and forth in enclosures that are, on average, 18,000 times smaller than their natural range and whose every decision – including what to eat, when to sleep, where to roam, and whom they have as a mate – is controlled by human beings.
‘We urge Tamara, who does care about animals but surely doesn’t understand what she’s participating in, to recognise these institutions for what they are – lousy prisons with living exhibits.
‘And we ask her to switch to supporting campaigns that protect animals in their native habitats, because all the publicity gimmicks in the world won’t prevent species from becoming extinct.’
MailOnline has contacted Tamara’s representatives and a Chessington World Of Adventures Resort spokesperson for comment.

Inseparable from her daughter, it was no surprise that Tamara brought her four-year-old Sofia to the theme park.
The British model was seen being every inch the affectionate mother as she pushed her little girl around in her pram.
In recent weeks, the mother-of-one insisted that she didn’t want to be critical of other mums but she was keen to discuss her own experiences as a mother.
She explained it was partly due to the fact she still breastfeeds Fifi at night and she has never left her for more than a couple of hours.
‘I still breastfeed her in the night, I’ve talked openly about that, it’s a personal decision,’ Tamara told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford in recent weeks.

‘I really don’t have a desire to go away, I go out for dinner with my husband, but I come back to her and I like to make sure she’s ready in the morning.’
Tamara confessed that Fifi will join her and husband Jay Rutland for their fifth wedding anniversary celebrations.
‘I can see it as a problem when Jay is like “get her out of the bed”,’ she added of their co-sleeping arrangements.
