Alexis Sanchez reportedly wants out of Manchester United after just a year at the club.
The Chilean only arrived from Arsenal in a sensational deal last January but his Old Trafford career has not gone as hoped.
It remains to be seen if Sanchez does get a move when the January transfer window reopens with a move to PSG a preference.
But with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in their ranks, it is unlikely he would even get into the French champions’ side.
United were linked with a number of players this time 12 months ago but Mourinho couldn’t miss the opportunity to land one of the Premier League’s leading performers.
However times have changed, and the Times reports Mourinho has privately admitted that United made a mistake.
And he believes they should have snapped up Croatia and Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic instead.
United were also keen on Perisic in the summer but that moved didn’t materialise after they failed to meet Inter’s valuation.
Perisic was desperate to move to United too but their significant outlay on Sanchez, with transfer fee and wages, may have made the board reluctant to increase their offer.
Sanchez has started United’s last two games – the wins over Bournemouth and Juventus – in a central striking role.
It remains to be seen if he will keep his place for Sunday’s Manchester derby, with striker Romelu Lukaku returning to training earlier this week.
“We have one more session tomorrow. If the answer is positive then he is ready but at the moment he only trains with the team," Mourinho said on Friday when asked if the Belgian would make it.
