Why two Egypt World Cup teammates won’t talk at World Cup 2018

It was bad enough for Egypt’s veteran goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary when his daughter decided to date one of his team-mates.

But it got even worse when the couple broke off a whirlwind romance that had seen them become engaged to be married when it was revealed that Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim – nicknamed Kahraba – was already betrothed to another woman.

El-Hadary insisted he was happy when his daughter, Shadwa fell in love with the 24-year-old winger.

But he was less understanding when Kahraba then confessed he was already in a long-term relationship with an actress.

The two team-mates have barely been on speaking terms in Russia.

El-Hadary, 45, was on the substitutes’ bench when the Egyptians opened their World Cup campaign against Uruguay, with his one-time son-in-law to be sat close by.

El-Hadary will become the oldest player in World Cup history if he gets a taste of the action in the games against Russia and Saudi Arabia.

How far will Egypt get at the World Cup?
