Mark Noble insists the hard work starts now as West Ham’s captain unveiled the club’s impressive new home and away kits to herald the beginning of a bold and bright era under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
The Chilean took charge of the East London club earlier this week, replacing David Moyes in the hot seat.
And Hammers skipper Noble is relishing a fresh start under the former Premier League winning manager, who has vowed to deliver an exciting attacking brand of football at the London Stadium next season.
“Unveiling the kit is the start of a new season and the start of hoping and working hard, said Noble.
“The new kit is a fresh start ahead of trying to make it a special one and one to remember.”
West Ham invited a select group of iconic players, past and present, to model the smart “I’m Forever” Umbro strips.
Noble was joined by two-time FA Cup-winning captain Billy Bonds, 1980 FA Cup final match-winner Sir Trevor Brooking, 2012 Play-Off final heroes Carlton Cole and Jack Collison, Hammer of the Year Marko Arnautovic, Young Hammer of the Year Declan Rice and Ladies stars Ellie Zoepfl and Andria Georgiou to unbox the classic Claret and Blue Home shirt and eye-catching dark teal and claret Away shirt for the first time at the club’s Rush Green training base.
Noble, who has worn the famous Claret and Blue more than 400 times since making his debut at the age of 17 in 2004, said: “Because I loved playing football and grew up around West Ham, if I was lucky, I got the whole kit for my Christmas or birthday present.
“I had all the kits up until I started playing in the Academy!”
West Ham’s legendary all-time appearance record holder Bonds said: “The first time I put on a Claret and Blue shirt was against Sheffield Wednesday at Upton Park in ’67. We were a couple of goals up and lost 3-2, and there would be a lot more of that down the years as we were a very entertaining team!
“I had to give my shirt to the kit man to take away and wash, as it’s not like the modern day when you can take the shirt home or give it away, but I did keep my best four shirts from the two FA Cup finals, the European Cup Winners’ Cup final and League Cup final.
“It’s an honour to wear the Claret and Blue shirt when you think of all the great players who have worn it, too. I was very lucky and I’m very proud.”
The home shirt features a traditional claret body and sleeves with a sky blue neckline and cuffs, an Irons graphic on the back of the neck with the classic Umbro stacked diamond motif, completed by classic white shorts and socks.
The away kit breaks new ground for the Hammers, with a smart dark teal being used for the first time alongside a Claret neckline and cuffs in the shirt, alongside dark teal shorts and yellow socks.
The new strips will be available in-store on the official West Ham shop from Friday 8 June.
