Why is Andrea McLean leaving Loose Women?

Andrea joined the long-running daytime classic in 2007 as one of the shows main hosts.

After more than a decade on the show, Andrea announced last month that she would be leaving the Loose Women.

In an emotional edition of the show, Andrea told her fellow panellists that she would be stepping down from her role to concentrate on her website and brand This Girl Is on Fire.

Following on from her announcement on the show, she took to Instagram to confirm the news to her followers, saying: “Yes, it’s true, I really have just announced to the world that after 13 years as anchor of @loosewomen I am leaping into the unknown and following my dreams.

“It’s time to hand over the baton to someone else, and rest assured this is most definitely an ‘au revoir’ not goodbye – I’m sure I’ll be popping up on the telly to say hello to the Loose ladies some time in the future!

“And while you may not see me on screen with them, we will definitely still be in touch – there’s way too much gossip and chat to miss out on otherwise!”

The Loose Women star continued: “I know that doing something incredible in life also means doing something that scares you – and in my instance, it means having enough faith in the universe to say goodbye to something that is familiar, put myself out there and try something new.

“Even though I have no idea if it will all work out ok. This year has shown me that there’s no such thing as the ‘right time’ because who knows what’s around the corner?

“And for every ‘What if I fall?’ thought that has poked me in the head, there’s the whisper: ‘What if you fly?’

“I just know that I want to carry on making women feel great about themselves, and that’s what I intend to do.

“I’ll be working ’til we wrap for Christmas, so I’ll still be on the telly for a few weeks more.

“Lots of love to you all, and thank you again for all your kind messages. I am blown away. I may be crying a lot for the rest of the day! xx”

It has since been confirmed Andrea’s last appearance on the show will be Wednesday, December 16.

While working as a panellist on Loose Women, Andrea has been open with her mental health as well as her experiences with menopause.

Talking in 2018, Andrea spoke on how voicing her experiences on the show allowed her to realise she was not alone.

She explained: “It wasn’t something that I necessarily wanted to do, but I work on a programme where we’re very honest and I felt like I had to tell the truth!

“After I revealed that I was having a hysterectomy on Loose Women, 10,000 women got in touch within 48 hours. It was mind-blowing.

“I went from thinking it was something really personal to realising there were all these women out there desperate to know that they weren’t alone.

“And if someone like me doesn’t talk about it, keeps it to myself, then nothing is ever going to change, and half the population is going to stay quiet about something that is a massive part of life. So, I decided to be brutally honest about every single bit of it!”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV from 12.30pm.
