If you’re a star who needs to make a major style statement, look no further than Law Roach.
In an interview with the Guardian, the stylist responsible for putting stars like Zendaya and Céline Dion on the fashion map revealed the clever trick he used to get designers to lend him clothes for his clients.
Roach said of Zendaya, “Nobody wanted to dress her when she wasn’t known, so I would put her in things that other people had already worn.”
This led to increased exposure for the 22-year-old “Greatest Showman” star, who because of these repeat ensembles became a fixture in tabloids’ “Who Wore It Better” columns — and eventually, “people started to know her name.”
From there, the attention paid to Zendaya’s looks grew exponentially, from the 2015 Oscar-night dreadlocks that led to a controversy with Giuliana Rancic to the mullet she wore as a tribute to David Bowie following his passing.
“You’ve got to be a strong girl to do that on the red carpet. You have to have conviction to say, ‘I like this, and I think I look cool, and f—k you to everybody who doesn’t.’” Roach explained. “I think all my girls have an element of ‘f—k you’ in them.”
