Argos recalling Cuggl stair gates that girl, 2, got her leg trapped in between bars – The Sun

A TODDLER who became trapped in a stair gate has had to be rescued by firefighters, a week after Argos recalled the product.

The retailer warned parents to "stop using [the gates] immediately" in a recall notice issued last week after it was discovered that seven models sold under the brand didn't meet EU regulations.

But days later, a two-year-old had to be rescued because her leg became wedged in the grates at her home in Bristol.

The tot, who hasn't been named, was freed using "muscle power" after getting stuck because the bars are positioned "too far apart".

Kingswood Fire Station tweeted a photo of the white stair gate and wrote: "We have just rescued a 2 year old child from this stair gate.

"We used muscle power to bend the bars apart to release her leg.

Which Cuggl stair gates have been recalled? 

SEVEN models sold under Argos' own brand Cuggl have been pulled from shelves over safety fears.

If you have one of the below, stop using it immediately and return it to your nearest store for a full refund.

The recall came six months after Which? issued a warning over the stair gates because they failed a series of safety tests.

Cuggl is Argos' own brand of children's products – in September it was forced to recall high chairs sold under the brand over fears it could fall over when your baby is in it.

The fire department is now urging parents to check whether they've got one of the faulty products at home.

Other issues have also been identified with the gates, such as the brackets or wooden slates breaking if a child bangs or kicks it and the auto-close feature not working.

You can check whether you have one of the affected gates at home by looking out for the Cuggl logo near the fastening where the gate clips shut.

Alternatively, you can check whether the category number found on the original packaging matches with one of the ones that are being recalled in the box above.

Parents who do have one of the gates at home are being advised to return it to your nearest store in exchange for a full refund.

You won't need a receipt, and the refund will be issued in cash or via your direct debit card.

The gates originally cost between £23.99 and £25.99.

A spokesperson for Argos told The Sun: "We are very sorry to hear about this incident.

"Product safety is our number one concern, which is why we recalled these stair gates after independent testing highlighted potential safety issues."

Argos has also issued a recall over memory foam mattress toppers because they're a fire risk.

Parents are also being urged to stop using a children's swing sold on Amazon which has been recalled over fears it can strangle children.

Your product recall rights

PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
