Buh-bye, boring black jackets — this winter, it’s all about a statement-making coat in screaming pink.
At least according to superstars like Rihanna, who announced her pregnancy last month in a barely-buttoned vintage Chanel puffer that framed her bejeweled baby bump.
As news broke that the Bad Gal was expecting, searches for “pink padded coats” skyrocketed by 200%, according to data from fashion search engine Love the Sales.
Fashioned from fine silk and adorned with gleaming Gripoix buttons, the singer’s rare circa-1996 style recently sold on 1stdibs for a whopping $22,000.
But you don’t have to drop five figures or scour the secondhand market to get in on this head-turning trend; just look at Jennifer Lopez, who posed for the New York Times in early February wearing a similar (though sadly sold out) neon pink number from none other than H&M.
And no celeb understands the power of bold and bright outerwear quite like Kim Kardashian, who seemed to foreshadow this particular fad with her series of bubblegum-hued Balenciaga looks last fall.
Ahead of her “SNL” hosting gig in October (during which she delivered her monologue in skintight pink velvet) the fashion and beauty mogul was spotted rocking an ankle-length fuchsia anorak from the luxury label.
For the show’s afterparty, she changed into a cerise-colored catsuit topped with a matching, mega-sized feathery coat in the same shocking shade.
And earlier this week, Kardashian proved the look has staying power by reprising it once more with a hot pink parka and thigh-high boots, both by — you guessed it — Balenciaga.
Her fellow law student Elle Woods would most certainly approve.
