Fisherman’s Bastion

If you live in the United States, chances are you don’t get to see real castles all that often, but one trip to Fisherman’s Bastion in Budapest and you’ll have photos that’ll make it look like you’ve entered into your very own fairytale.

While it may seem at first that the castle may have been built as a military fortress, it was actually built so that people like you can enjoy all the amazing views the city has to offer!

That’s right, y’all! Fisherman’s Bastion was literally built for Instagram before Instagram was even a thing, so take some time to explore and don’t forget to test out those angles. There’s so much that can be done here!

The Danube River

Goodnight, Budapest ?

If you’ve ever been to Budapest, the Danube River is impossible to miss. The beautiful body of water separates the Buda and Pest sides of the city, and although it’s pretty to look at during all times of the day, we particularly loved the way the lights from the chain bridge and Buda Castle reflecting on the water at night.

To be honest, there’s so much more to be done around the Danube River than simply getting Instagram pics. For example, get yourself tickets to a dinner cruise! Eating food and cruising along the water? Sounds like the perfect Saturday night to us!

The Hungarian Parliament

This goes without saying, but any time you visit a European city, you should make it a point to visit the country’s parliament building. That being said, the parliament in Budapest did NOT disappoint. You can get a view of the structure from up close, or even all the way across on the Buda side of the city! Therefore, it simply has to make your Instagram feed!

NGL, the Hungarian parliament building is gorgeous. In fact, it’s so gorgeous that this photo doesn’t even give it an ounce of justice. That’s why you should definitely take a moment, after you snap your Instagram photo, to take your eye off the lens and look up at all the beauty that’s in front of you; it’s truly amazing!

Matthias Church

Just a girl and her castle ??‍♀️

Most people would agree that one of the best parts about Europe is its many churches, and we totally have to agree! Not only is it a wonderful cultural experience to visit places of worship in different cities, but the architecture is so incredible that it’ll truly make your jaw drop to the floor.

Well, the same can be said for the Matthias Church in Budapest. Although it’s not a basilica, the church is truly like nothing you’ve ever seen before. We mean, look at how colorful it is! Plus, you won’t have to go very far out of your way to see it; it’s located in the exact same area as Fisherman’s Bastion!

St. Stephen’s Basilica

What’s your favorite part about visiting a new place? One of my favorite things is finding out fun facts about the place, because often it gives me insight into why the city is the way it is. ⭐️ Fun facts about Hungary: ☞ Hungary is one of the oldest countries in Europe, it was established in the year 896! ☞ The inventor of the Rubik’s Cube and the inventor of the ballpoint pen were Hungarian. ☞ Palinka is a fruit brandy that is believed to cure everything, and I mean everything! No one knows the exact science behind it, but most Hungarians say palinka is pretty much nature’s best medicine. Period pains? Palinka. Hangover? Palinka. Broken heart? You guessed it… palinka! ☞ Parents have a specific list from which to choose their babies names. If you want to name your child a name that’s not pre-approved, you need to apply for approval from the Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences! ⭐️ Where are you from and what fun facts do you know about your city? ? @krystinesc

Just because we mentioned the Matthias Church first doesn’t mean Budapest doesn’t have a basilica of its own! St. Stephen’s Basilica is another Instagram-worthy location. Located on the Pest side of the city, the church makes for an amazing photo-opp, especially when you can manage to get some of those cobblestone streets in the frame.

The truth is, we don’t have anything like this in the U.S., so while you’re there, take advantage! Walk through the church, take a seat, and observe the amazing stained-glass windows. Then, on your way out, snag a few pics and head over to the Dohany Street Synagogue. It’s the second-largest synagogue in the world and it’s gorgeous.

Széchenyi Thermal Baths

Okay… we took you to church and now it’s time for you to unwind after all of that sightseeing! For some rest and relaxation — and yes — hella Instagram photos, head over to the Széchenyi Thermal Baths. Trust us… you won’t regret it.

The entire complex is made up of 18 thermal baths with “medicinal natural hot spring waters.” Our favorite baths, of course, were the ones located outside, because not only can you enjoy the water, but you can also enjoy the lovely setting. The yellow building makes for a very Instagrammable experience, but if you’re truly looking to leave there relaxed, we highly recommend booking a massage there as well! It was seriously the best day EVER!

Gellért Spa

In case you couldn’t already tell, Budapest is known for their thermal baths, so of course, the Széchenyi Baths aren’t the only ones in the city. For another super photogenic experience, head over to the Gellért spa for some more relaxation time.

Unlike the Széchenyi Baths, the Gellért spa is located on the Buda side of the city, so if you’re staying on that side, it may make more sense for you to go there. Regardless of what you choose, you’ll get great photos at both.

Vintage Garden Bistro

If you find yourself checking out art in the Jewish Quarter, you should definitely stop by the Vintage Garden Bistro.

The restaurant has a great menu with tons of options, so you can opt for a traditional Hungarian meal or stick with a cheeseburger instead. Even though the food will be great, you’re really there for the ambiance, so strike a pose, snap your pics, and continue touring the city. There’s a lot more to see.

The Chain Bridge

When traveling through Budapest, it’s inevitable that, at some point, you’re going to want to travel from Buda to Pest and vice versa. But who says a walk from point A to point B can’t be Instagram-worthy? Not us!

At some point during your trip, you should definitely make it a point to walk across the Chain Bridge. Sure, it’s one of nine bridges that connect the two sides of the city, but it was the first one that was erected, which means it’s the most iconic bridge in the whole city. You can’t pass that up!

Szimpla Kert

Last but certainly not least, make your way over to Szimpla Kert, which is a well-known bar in the Jewish Quarter. We know you’re probably wondering why we’re sending you to a bar, but trust us when we say it’s probably the coolest thing you’ll see your entire trip.

So, what exactly is Szimpla Kert? Basically, it’s a pub made out of ruins and it’s decorated with string lights and a bunch of mismatched outfits. Before you head out, be sure to explore all of the many rooms of the pub and snap a photo of yourself chillin’ in a bathtub. It may be random, but it’s cool AF.
