Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande are the new era of divas

Sure, the VMAs may be all about landing the coveted Moon Man trophy, but it was the women who stole the show Monday night at Radio City Music Hall. The flashy MTV awards ceremony ushered in a new era of divas led by Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

The night kicked off with a laugh-out-loud monologue from Cardi B. In her first public appearance since the July 10 birth of her daughter, Kulture, the Bronx-born rapper trolled the audience by showing up on stage with a blanketed bundle of joy . . . which she unwrapped to reveal a Moon Man.

Following a lackluster opening performance by Shawn Mendes, Minaj amped up the energy when she accepted the Best Hip Hop video award in in a see-through skirt that left nothing to the imagination. Later in the night, she took to the Oculus for a blistering medley of songs from her new album “Queen,” including the epic “Barbie Dreams” and its litany of disses.

None of that shade was thrown at baby diva Ariana Grande, who helped Minaj get on stage without tripping over her dress. The singer, who skipped her signature ponytail for the night, nabbed the Best Pop video title — and thanked fiancé Pete Davidson, with whom she shared plenty of PDA on the red carpet, “for existing.”

No doubt, they’ve all learned a little something from Jennifer Lopez. That iconic diva took home the night’s biggest honor, the Michael Jackson Vanguard award — and gave a show-stopping performance that chronicled her entire career thus far.
