Cheltenham Festival tips: Gold Cup trends – we help you find the winner of the race live on ITV at 3.30pm today

Key trends:

  • No winners older than 10 since 1998
  • No more than three chase runs this season
  • Stick with Grade 1 chase winners
  • Eight of past 10 won last time out

WINNING last time has been important in the Gold Cup, which is not great for defending champion Native River, Thistlecrack, Might Bite, Anibale Fly, Bristol De Mai, Elegant Escape, Shattered Love, Definitly Red, Double Shuffle and Yala Enki.

Invitation Only has yet to win a Grade 1 chase so is hard to fancy.

King George winner Clan Des Obeaux has too many chase runs under his belt for a typical Gold Cup winner.

Another strong trend is a previous win or place at the Cheltenham Festival. Al Boum Photo and Kemboy can’t boast that stat.

That leaves us with Bellshill and PRESENTING PERCY. The latter won the RSA Chase in good style last season and can follow up here.
