But, if you’re looking for a way to make your mac ’n’ cheese using items from your store cupboard then have we got a treat for you.
Tom Westerland, head chef at Crocker's Henley, uses a simple stock cube to ramp up the favour of his cheesy pasta.
Tom explained: “OXO cubes are my go-to stock at home!
“Don't knock 'em – they are one of the most useful, powerful tools you can have in a kitchen.”
He continued: “They are fantastic as a topping for macaroni cheese.
“Blend one beef OXO cube with 100g of Panko breadcrumbs and 50g of crispy onions in a spice grinder until you have a good crumb.
“Sprinkle this over your mac and cheese just as it comes out of the oven – I defy you not to love this.”
OMG, that sounds lush!

You can also use a vegetable stock cube if you don’t eat meat.
Plus, this hack is pretty cheap – you can grab 12 beef OXO cubes for just £1.30 from Tesco.
That’s just 11p per cube.
And, if you want to make your mac ’n’ cheese a little healthier or lower in carbs you can cook up some cauliflower, blitz it and stir into the dish before baking.
