DEAR DEIDRE I HIDE it well but I am desperately unhappy being alone and just waiting for that special man to come into my life.
I am a 49-year-old gay man and have never embraced my sexuality but now accept it will never go away.
My family and close friends know I am gay and they are the positives in my life.
I have had a couple of relationships but one of those men broke my heart because he didn’t share my feelings.
I am on dating sites but most of the men on there are not looking for a relationship.
The thought of spending the next 20 to 30 years alone sometimes makes me think about ending it all.

DEIDRE SAYS: As you grew up, social attitudes were very different, but I worry you will not meet the right partner for you as long as you accept your sexuality so reluctantly.
My e-leaflet of Gay Resources can help you feel proud to be gay.
