Royal Mail has been working hard over the past year to deliver Britons’ post throughout the pandemic. However, sometimes the company cannot run as smoothly as it wishes to due to national and global disruptions.

The firm often shares updates with customers on its website.

It lets Britons know which postcodes are affected by postal delays each day.

Today, deliveries in a handful of areas across the UK may be disrupted.

This is due to a spike in demand throughout the pandemic, as well as a shortage of staff.

Members of staff have been self-isolating either because they have caught Covid or have been pinged by the Track and Trace app.

On its website, Royal Mail stated: “Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas may be disrupted this week.

“We aim to deliver at least every other day in these areas, though this may not always be possible in offices temporarily affected by very high levels of absence.

“These offices are exceptions, and are listed below when appropriate.

Royal Mail also issued an apology for its customers.

It said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resource available.

“And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”

Britons have taken to social media to express their fury with Royal Mail for delays, as well as for missing parcels and deliveries.

One person claimed: “Royal Mail have lost two parcels now in the space of two weeks. I’m beyond annoyed.”

Another person said: “Anybody else having major Royal Mail delays.”

However, other Britons praised the postal company for its hard work.

One person wrote: “@RoyalMail thank you for such great service! Ordered this less than 24 hours ago and it’s here!”

Another person said: “First class service as usual from Royal Mail.”

Another happy customer commented: “Think we are all quick to complain when things go wrong but would like to say how impressed I am with Royal Mail. Form filled out online on Thursday night, issue totally resolved by Saturday. No fuss, just sorted. Excellent customer service.”
