DEAR DEIDRE: I PASSED my driving test four years ago but only got to drive my car three times before I was involved in a road accident.
I’m now 25 and still have flashbacks to that day.
A car came around a roundabout fast, just as I’d pulled out into the inside lane. It hit me side-on.

I suffered whiplash and the car, which my dad had bought for me, was a write-off. The crash really knocked my confidence.
I’ve just got a new job in a garden centre and have been told I might have to do some driving to collect plants from their sister company.
I don’t want to lose this job but I’m worried sick at the prospect of driving again. I don’t know if I can get back behind the wheel.
DEIDRE SAYS: Yes you can. But you need somebody to help you to feel confident in the car.
Congratulations on getting your new job. Arrange some brush-up driving lessons, maybe with your previous driving instructor.
In the meantime, you can find emotional support through Brake, which helps people get through the trauma of an accident (brake.org.uk, 0808 800 0401). Good luck.
