Inside The Chase stars’ real lives and relationships as new chaser Darragh Ennis is announced

Last night, The Chase introduced new chaser Darragh Ennis, the latest quizzer set to challenge contestants with his brain-busting general knowledge.

Darragh will join Mark Labbett, Anne Hegarty, Shaun Wallace, Jenny Ryan and Paul Sinha in their quest to outsmart the general public.

With each episode pulling in an incredible 4.9 million viewers and counting, fans can't get enough of the show's quizzing royalty. But who are each of the chasers and what is their backstory?

Mark Labbett

The Beast, also known as Beastie Boy, is 54 years old and has a degree in Maths from Oxford University.

Working as a Maths teacher, he became interesting in quizzes after making money from winning so many. He has since appeared on Mastermind, University Challenge, Fifteen to One, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? and Only Connect.

The quizzer was married to his 26-year-old second cousin Katie and they share a three-year-old son.

The pair split after it was revealed that the nurse was leaving him for a boyfriend, 30-year-old Scott Bate.

The couple had an open marriage so Mark was aware of her lover and it’s since been rumoured that he would be appearing on Celebs Go Dating in a bid to find love.

Shaun Wallace

The Dark Destroyer is a qualified barrister and has been working as a Criminal Defense Advocate for 35 years, taking part in hearings at The Old Bailey in London.

The 60 year old first found fame as the first black winner of Mastermind, and has since gone on to appear on various quiz shows, including Egg Heads

Shaun is currently single.

Anne Hegarty

The Governess started her career as a local newspaper journalist and proofreader.

She appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2018, where she spoke about being diagnosed with Asperger’s at the age of 45.

Her Wikipedia page claims the 62 year old is married to Jake Hester, however, she was quick to dismiss this as nonsense and is currently single.

Paul Sinha

The Sinnerman trained is medicine and worked as a doctor alongside dabbling with stand-up comedy before joining the show in 2011.

In 2019 Paul revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Eight months after his diagnosis, the 49 year old married his long term partner Olly last year and the couple are about to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.

Jenny Ryan

Known as The Vixen, Jenny Ryan worked in telly long before she appeared on it.

The 38 year old previously worked on the show writing questions and also competed in quiz teams alongside Anne Hergarty.

In 2019, Jenny placed third on The X Factor: Celebrity, singing for Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.

Jenny has mentioned "her boyfriend" on social media, but it fiercely private about his identity.

Darragh Ennis

The Menace is a seasoned academic and a postdoctoral researcher at Oxford University where he studies the brains of insects, having previously worked at Concordia University in Montreal.

The 47 year old is the first chaser to have previously been a contestant, having competed against Paul Sinha in 2017.

With him being a newbie, not much is known about his private life and whether he has a partner or not.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
